Dead Man's Penny

A memorial plaque was issued after the 1st World War to next-of-kin of all British and Empire service personnel who were killed as a result of the war.

The plaques (more strictly described as plaquettes) were made of bronze.

They were known as the 'Dead Man’s Penny' because of the similarity in appearance to the somewhat smaller penny.

The reverse described the casualty details.

This Dead Man's Penny is accompanied by a condolence letter from King George.
