The Kiama Library Strategic Plan 2025-2029 was developed in consultation with key stakeholders including library members, library staff and the wider community.

It incorporates feedback from customer surveys, program evaluations, staff and community workshops.

About the plan

Manager Library and Cultural Hubs Michelle Hudson said Council provides a highly respected and vibrant library service at our Kiama and Gerringong branches and also had a strong online presence.

“Our libraries are at the heart of our community. They are safe, welcoming and inclusive places where people can come together to learn and share creativity through our programs and events,” Ms Hudson said.

“Our dedicated and creative library staff are extremely passionate about the role of libraries in our community, the essential services we provide, and the social connections we help forge that build resilient and cohesive communities.”

“Our libraries foster reading, provide free access to information, increase digital literacy, and are custodians of our cultural history.”

“Our Kiama Library Strategic Plan 2025-2029 allows us to continue the important role our library services play in our community, as our community changes over the next few years.”

Ms Hudson said the Strategic Plan includes a number of key recommendations:

  • Explore existing and potential layouts at Kiama Library to ensure it remains flexible and dynamic
  • Explore potentially activating outdoor spaces at both Kiama and Gerringong libraries
  • Alternative models of service delivery to satellite communities to increase community connections
  • Integrate the Local Studies Collection and the Kiama Family History Centre into one collection and service point.

“Integrating the Local Studies Collection and Family History Centre will provide a stronger narrative around local history that includes personal stories and genealogical records, fostering a deeper understanding of the community’s identity.”

“It will also realise service efficiencies and further enhance opportunities for staff professional development.”
