Kiama Library history centre
There's no time like the present to find your past.
Our history centre, located on the ground level of Kiama Library, offers extensive resources to help you with your local or family history research project.
Our local studies reference collection is a non-lending collection of rare, unique and often self-published items accessible under supervision - now co-located with our specialist family history resources downstairs to allow better integration of our history resources.
Using the service
Our centre is open to the public every Thursday 10am-12pm, and everyone is welcome to drop in during these times to use the resources.
If you have a specific local history inquiry, our Local Studies Librarian is available at the centre on Thursday mornings, or otherwise upstairs at the library during library opening hours, where resources can be retrieved or accessed on your behalf.
Note, Ancestry.com can be accessed on the upstairs library public PCs anytime during library opening hours, as can our local history digital databases and many other local history resources in our lending collection.
Submit a research enquiry
Local and family history research requests may be undertaken on your behalf by staff or volunteers as time permits. Research undertaken on your behalf is limited to 2 hours free research.
Research requests are placed in a queue and completed on a sequential basis. We aim to complete requests in a timely manner, where staff time and information is available. Due to the nature of some requests, this timeframe may be up to 2-3 weeks or longer.
Please be as specific as possible with your inquiry and include any information that may be relevant or useful for the researcher.
