Recording your information
It's important to set up some sort of system to organise and record the information you find in your family history research as you go along. If you don’t do this from the beginning, you may end up going around in circles.
You can use either a digital or a paper-based system.
Digital genealogy programs
There are a number of genealogy programs you can download from the internet, some of which are free.
Click here for a comparison list of web-based genealogy software. Or if you have a subscription to Ancestry.com, you can record your information there.
Paper-based worksheets
There are many paper-based systems you can use to record your family history.
Inquire at the Kiama Family History Centre for a worksheet template, or print out a Family History Worksheet from NSW State Records.
Use a six-generation pedigree chart to combine your individual worksheets - purchase one from the Kiama Family History Centre, or download a free Six-Generation Pedigree Chart online (they are quite big so you will need access to a printer that can handle large paper sizes).
