We all love a good book and enjoy the opportunity to share a great read with friends.
Kiama Library would love to hear about the books you have enjoyed or thought about and are happy to publish them on the website.
Kiama Library held a very successful exhibition for the Kiama Council 150th anniversary celebrations in August 2009, showing historical photographs from the Kiama Library collection as well as the extensive Holden and Leatheam collections. This DVD incorporates the 100 historical photographs from that exhibition and many more to encompass the landscapes and townships of the Kiama Municipality.
The early photographs in the DVD were taken by Kiama photographer Richard Henry Holden between 1880 and 1900. Holden grew up in Kiama and became a photographer of renown, winning medals and awards at many exhibitions, including the World’s Fair in Chicago in 1896.
Richard Henry Holden’s nephew Bill Leatheam and in later years his son Steve Leatheam, have taken many of the later images, going to the same location, over the years to record the changes to our landscape and towns. Other photographs used in the DVD have been generously donated to Kiama Library.
Kiama Library would like to thank Steve Leatheam for his time and expertise in creating the DVD and for the donation of photographs from both the Leatheam and Holden Photographic Collection.
The DVD is on sale for $15 and can be purchased at the library.
